Franchise History

The Kings Comets, Inc. formed as a non-profit organization, operating under 501-c-3 by laws, with the tradename and logo trademarked in 1998 participating with the Mid-Eastern Football League (MEFL). They had a 6-2-0 record in the MEFL and a 6-4-0 record overall before losing to the Flint Falcons in the playoffs. In 1999 the Comets were accepted into the Mid-Continental Football League when the MEFL merged with the MCFL. The Comets had a 4-4-0 record in the MCFL and an overall record of 6-4-0 and again advanced to the playoffs before losing to the Southern Michigan Timberwolves. The Comets were inactive for the 2000-2003 seasons and returned to the MCFL in 2004. In 2004 the Comets picked up where they left off with a 6-4 record, 4-4 in league play, and advanced to the MCFL playoffs. The 2005 proved to be the most successful season, Comets were 5-3 in the MCFL, 6-4 overall, however they advanced to the semi-finals with a victory over the Southern Michigan Timberwolves. The 2006 season the comets went 5-4, 3-4 in league play and again advanced to the MCFL playoffs. The 2007 the Comets finished 3-7 and for the 2008 season, in each season with one MCFL victory. The 2009 season looks promising with the return of Co-Founder and Head Coach Brian Wells and Co-Founder David Roeder.

Over the years the Comets have done their part in helping players and coaches to the next level. The team has sent coaches Brian Wells, Brian Barrett and Matt Braun onto the professional ranks of indoor / arena football or in Europe. The following players have signed professional contacts as a result of their playing for the Comets: Darryl Moore, Larry Turney, Scott Stigers, Tony Railey, Quincy Davis, John Drury, Cleon Plummer, Keith Brooks, Jason Jones, Travis Johnson, Chris Young, Billy Back, James Frazier, Joe Washington, George Murray, K.C. The Comets are also active in the community and believe in “giving back”. The Comets recently have started an annual charity game for breast cancer awareness and have been involved in the Mason Chamber of Commerce donating items for auction. We have also been involved with Teen Response, Warren County Elf Project and also offer low ticket prices to ensure affordable family fun for the Greater Cincinnati area.
