Ulrich Borowka (born
May 19 ,1962 in Menden) is a former German footballer, in the defender position. A versatile blue-collar worker with a hard shot, his footballing ability was notoriously limited.In the Bundesliga, Borowka played for
SV Werder Bremen (1981-1987) andBorussia Mönchengladbach (1987-1996), amassing 388 league games (19 goals). He became league champion with Werder Bremen in 1988 and 1993, and won theGerman Cup in 1991 and 1994.He finished his career with
Tasmania 1900 Berlin (1996),Hannover 96 (1996-97),Widzew Łódź (1997, becoming the first German to play in the Polish league) andFC Oberneuland (1998).Borowka earned six caps for West Germany in 1988, and featured for the nation at
Euro 1988 .Borowka had problems with
alcoholism later in his career, and was prone todomestic violence against his wife. He managed to overcome these problems, however.External links
