On 3 December 1492, he was nominated
Bishop of Rochester . He was consecrated on 28 April 1493. He held the post he until 1497 when he was translated to beBishop of London .Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 268]His last post was as
Archbishop of York from 1501 to 1507. He was translated from the see of London on 18 January 1501.Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 283] While Archbishop he was responsible for the marriage ceremony ofArthur, Prince of Wales , eldest son of Henry VII, toCatherine of Aragon . Arthur died young, and his brother Henry, who became Henry VIII, then married Catherine.Between 1501 and 1507, he had built the Savage Chapel at
St Michael's Church, Macclesfield . It was built as achantry chapel. The three storey porch has the shields of Rochester, London and York, the three places where Thomas Savage was a bishop before becoming an Archbishop. This chapel now belongs to theMarquis of Cholmondeley .He died in September of 1507, either on the 2nd or the 3rd. Thomas Savage is buried in
York Minster where hiseffigy can still be seen; however, his heart is buried inMacclesfield , whence his family came.Notes
