In 1917 Hebert Candies was born, when Frederick Hebert purchased a copper kettle, knife, thermometer, table, marble slab and stove for eleven dollars. For thirty years, he developed and manufactured candies, selling them to small neighborhood stores throughout Central Massachusetts.
In 1946 Mr. Hebert purchased a Tudor stone mansion in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, on Route 20, then the major route connecting Central Massachusetts with Boston. He moved his candy-making operations there, and America's First Roadside Candy Store was born.
In 1955 Hebert Candies introduced
White Chocolate to America. In 2004 Hebert Candies sold the chocolate bar fundraising portion of the company to LaMontagne of Canada. Although LaMontagne continues to produce fundraising products, these are not made by, or use the same recipes as the original Hebert Candies fundraising chocolate bars. Hebert Candies was acquired in August 2005 and continues its retail operation and manufacturing facilities at the Candy Mansion. The mansion is located at 575 Hartford Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA.
