- SMS Oldenburg (1884)
SMS "Oldenburg" was an armored coastal defense ship of the
German Imperial Navy , with a displacement of 5,652 tons, built byAG Vulcan inStettin and launched on 20 December, 1884. It carried eight 24 centimeter guns in an unusual configuration: two on each broadside, two in a lateral embrasure, and two on the upper deck. It was 80 meters long and 18 meters wide, with a draught of 6.3 meters. Its top speed was 13.5 knots, and its crew numbered 389.As one of the last central battery ships, it was obsolete by the time it was completed. It was relegated to harbor duty in 1900 and to target ship in 1912. It was sold for breaking up in 1919.
