Brandon McGowan (born September 16, 1983 in city-state|Jersey City|New Jersey) is an American football Safety for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League. He was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Maine.

College career

McGowan was a four-year letterwinner with the Maine Black Bears finishing his college career as a First-team all-Atlantic 10 and 293 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 7 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 5 fumble recoveries. McGowan was selected MVP of the North/South All-star game.

Professional career

Chicago Bears

McGowan went undrafted in the 2005 NFL Draft and signed a three-year deal with the Chicago Bears.

During his rookie year with the Bears, McGowan played in 8 games, playing both Strong Safety and Free Safety. McGowan started the final three games of the 2005 season, and completed his rookie year with 23 tackles and 4 Special Teams tackles. McGowan saw much action against the Pittsburgh Steelers where he registered a career high 8 tackles.

McGowan saw play in only one game during the 2006 season. In week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers coming off the Physically Unable to Perform List only to rupture his Achilles Tendon and was placed on Injured Reserved for the rest of the '06 season.

In 2007 McGowan became a much more intricate part of the Bears' Defense. McGowan recorded his first career interception against the Green Bay Packers on the final play of the game when he picked off Brett Favre in the endzone to insure a victory for the Bears. McGowan replaced starting safety Adam Archuleta for most of the season and finished 2007 with 60 tackles and 2 interceptions.

McGowan lost out on the starting strong safety job to Kevin Payne during the 2008 preseason. On September 17, McGowan was placed on season-ending injured reserve with an ankle injury.
