The Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology in Bagayam, Vellore was established in July 1990 and is one of the six Government Engineering colleges fully governed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
The institute is equipped with a good laboratory, computer facilities and the students are trained by well qualified and experienced staff members.
It ranks in the top 10% among 220 colleges affiliated to Anna University. Alumni have made their mark in academics and extra curricular activitiesFact|date=July 2007.
The institute is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Location
TPGIT is located in a serene atmosphere at Bagayam, Vellore which is 130 km west of Chennai and 220 km east of Bangalore. It is well connected to both these cities by buses that leave from the heart of the town. Katpadi railway junction, 12 km from the college is directly connected to Chennai, Bangalore and from there to the rest of India. The nearest airport is at Chennai.The Sripuram Golden Temple is 6 km from this college.
