January 14 ,1971 inRouveen ) is a former professional footballer from theNetherlands . He retired in June 2004.Konterman's career began with the local amateur club "SC Rouveen", then went on to play for clubs in the Dutch
Eredivisie includingFC Zwolle , Cambuur, Willem II andFeyenoord , until he was snapped up byDick Advocaat in 2000 to play forRangers FC for a fee of £4.5m.Konterman was part of a growing Dutch influence at Ibrox under then manager Dick Advocaat. Whereas the likes of Ronald de Boer and Arthur Numan were a successful part of the Orange invasion, Konterman did not make a similarly impressive impact, he was utter rubbish to tell the truth. He endured a difficult start at Ibrox, where constant defensive errors, caused mainly by his hair, led to the creation of the nickname "Bertie Bombscare".However, following the arrival of Alex McLeish, Konterman was often used in an advanced role in the heart of the midfield. In this position, his defensive frailities were not so readily exposed and he went on to become a legend at the club, particularly after netting an awesome strike from 30 yards against arch rivals Celtic in a League Cup semi-final. After a 3 year spell with Rangers and winning 6 caps for Dutch national team, Konterman returned home in the summer of 2003 signing for
Vitesse Arnhem .External links
