"GNU locate" is a
Unix utility to find files on filesystems. It searches through a prebuiltdatabase of files generated by updatedb and compressed usingincremental encoding . It is significantly faster thanfind , but requires the database to be updated regularly.It is a part of [http://www.gnu.org/software/findutils/findutils.html GNU Findutils] .
It can also be used to index network filesystems.
