- The Oil Palace
The Oil Palace is an 8,300-seat multi-purpose
arena located on Texas State Highway 64 just outside the eastern city limits ofTyler, Texas .Construction on the Oil Palace started in 1955 but stopped when the developer and constructor of the property, Bobby Manziel, Sr unexpectedly died in 1956. Construction remained unfinished for over two decades, but was finally finished by his son Bobby Manziel, Jr in 1983. The finished project included extensive alterations to the original design.
The arena hosts concerts, sporting events, touring shows such as a circus, and civic events of a local nature such as high school graduations. It is also used for conventions and trade shows, with convert|60000|sqft|m2|-3 of floor space. The paved parking lot on the fenced property surrounding and including the Oil Palace is more than adequate to accommodate any event held inside the arena, providing plenty of space for tailgating and other additional activities of patrons and event sponsors.Many events held at the Oil Palace provide parking for no charge.
