The Centre de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM) [http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/en/] is the first mathematical research institute in Canada. It was founded in 1969, and was recognized as a national research center for the mathematical sciences in 1984.Fact|date=March 2008
Located at the Université de Montréal, it organizes conferences, workshops and graduate summer schools and hosts approximately 2000 scientists from around the world to attend its annual thematic programs aimed at exploring cutting-edge mathematical research.Fact|date=March 2008
The CRM has nine research laboratories, one in each of: mathematical analysis, number theory and symbolic computation, differential geometry and topology, discrete mathematics and combinatorics, applied mathematics, neuroimaging, mathematical physics, statistics, and quantum computing [ [http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/labs/laboratoires_an.shtml CRM laboratories] at the CRM website] . It has programs connecting universities to industry, postdoctoral and educational programs, four publications series, including two published in collaboration with the American Mathematical Society, and one with Springer in mathematical physics.Fact|date=March 2008
Each year it awards four of the main mathematical sciences prizes in Canada: the CRM-Fields-PIMS prize [ [http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/prix/prixCRMFieldsPIMS/prix_CFP_an.shtml CRM-Fields-PIMS prize] at the CRM website] , which is the most prestigious award given in Canada in mathematics; the Aisenstadt Prize [ [http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/prix/prixAndreAisenstadt/prix_AA_an.shtml André-Aisenstadt Prize] at the CRM website] , awarded to a young outstanding Canadian mathematician; the CRM-SSC Prize [ [http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/prix/prixCRMSSC/prix_CRMSSC_an.shtml CRM-SSC Prize] at the CRM website] , awarded in collaboration with the Statistical Society of Canada to an exceptional young Canadian statistician; and the CRM-CAP Prize [ [http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/prix/prixACPCRM/prix_ACPCRM_an.shtml CRM-APC Prize] at the CRM website] , awarded in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Physicists in recognition of exceptional achievements in theoretical and mathematical physics.
