Payyan dynasty is a family which manage and administer
Swamithope pathi , the head quarters ofAyyavazhi . The genesis of Payyan dynasty was a bit uncertain. It was believed to be the descendants of Pothukkutty who was called as Payyan byAyya Vaikundar . But some people claim that they were the descendants of Paradevathai and Muthu Kutty.Payyan dynasty - Claims
There are a number of claims about them. Some legends says that they were the descendats of Pothukkutty who was the son of Paradevathai and her first husband. This legend says that Paradevathai after leaving her first husband went to the house of her grand mother on Poovandanthoppe. Along with she brings her three children, two boys and one girl. There she met Muthukuttu, who was known as
Sampooranathevan inAkilam and fall in love with him. He too fall in love with her. They lived as husband and wife without marrying. One of the male child Paradevathai brought with her though married, died without descendants. And the remaining child was podukkutty and the ancestor of Payyan dynasty. He was taken as the primary Panividaiyalar by Ayya Vaikundar and called affectionately as 'Payyan' which later changed as the name of their dynasty. The female child was married toVellaicchamiyar of a villagePallam , a devottee ofAyya Vaikundar . But the Payyan dynasty claims that they were the descendants ofPodukkutty who was born toMuthu kutty andParadevathai .Payyan in Akilattirattu
But the religious text of
Ayyavazhi not even mentions a word about this Payyan dynasty. Only a quote inArul Nool refers only a single word as Payyan inPattiram .Mythical Claim
Some of the followers of Ayyavazhi claims that a cow which was mentioned in the Cow and Women of
Akilam seven , which perform tavam towards Narayana was given birth here as Payan. There is also a belief that the term ' "Kappitta makan" ' of Arul Nool was a reference to Payyans.Renowed Payyans
