The Town Pavilion was completed in 1986, temporarily becoming the state's tallest building. Two year later, it was surpassed by
One Kansas City Place , which is located just across the street to the Southwest. Ever since its completion, it's been home to a significant amount of Downtown Kansas City's offices and retail, with over 1.2 million square feet of office space.Location
It is located on the NE corner of 12th and Main, right around the corner from
Oppenstein Brothers Memorial Park . The main entrance is at 1111 Main Street.The tower occupies the former site of the Harzfeld Store Building. The 11-storeys of both the Harzfeld's old exterior and part of the old Boley Building have been integrated into the Town Pavilion's design.
Appearance
The exterior of the building was constructed with
granite ,glass withsteel trim. 90% of the building is enclosed in glazed glass, the majority of which is dark blue. The structural system of the roof is in atruss form.When viewed from the sky, this skyscraper appears to be a glass "
cathedral " in theLatin Cross Design. It is unknown if the Architect purposely made it appear this way.ee also
