Joe DiMaggio Award

Xaverian annually hosts the Joe DiMaggio Award Gala. The award was established in 1999 by its chairman, Dr. Rock Positano '76, with the approval of the DiMaggio Estate, in memory of baseball legend, Joe DiMaggio. Mr. DiMaggio was a generous financial supporter of the school and was the first individual to receive the award, then called the Concordia Award. Upon his death, the prize was renamed the Joe DiMaggio Award to memorialize the baseball player's life-long commitment to the health, education, and well being of America's youth. To date, the DiMaggio Award has been presented to international statesman Dr. Henry A. Kissinger, Luciano Pavarotti, former mayor Rudy Giuliani, TV personality Regis Philbin, actor James Gandolfini, businessman John Bello, football player Boomer Esiason, and sportscasters Bob Costas and Tiki Barber.cite web | last = | first = | authorlink = | coauthors = | title = Joe DiMaggio Award | work = | publisher = | date = 2007 | url = http://www.joedimaggioaward.com/ | format = | doi = | accessdate = 2007-12-16]

Athletics

The school's hockey team has a rich, yet unfortunate, history. Due to various reasons, the program is currently very weak, playing in the CHSAA B Division and barely comprises a full roster. However, in the 1980s and 1990s, the team dominated its league, winning 4 championships (1985, 1986, 2000 and 2001) and, at one point, was ranked nationally as part of the top 100 high school programs in the country (during its 2000 and 2001 championship years).
