Garden City Handicap

Garden City Handicap

The Garden City Handicap is a race for three-year-old Thoroughbred fillies held at Belmont Park on Long Island, New York. It's run at a distance of one and one-eighth miles on the turf and is a minor prep to both the Breeders' Cup Distaff and the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. A Grade I event, it offers a purse of $250,000.

Run at a mile and a sixteenth in 1979, 1984, and from 1994 to 1996, then at one mile from 1980 to 1983, and from 1985 to 1993, the Garden City BC is part of the Breeders’ Cup National Stakes Program.

Before 1998, this race was run as the Rare Perfume Breeders’ Cup. Sky Beauty won the Rare Perfume in 1993. Personal Ensign won it in 1987.
