Cher , released onMay 28 1982 by Columbia Records. This album, like other several predecessors, was a commercial failure, failed to chart and has sold less than 880,000 copies worldwide. Following the record's release, Cher took a five year hiatus from music to focus on a film career.Album history
The album was released in
1982 and was the first and last forColumbia Records . The record was produced byJohn Farrar and David Wolpert and it is the first collaboration with the composer and producerDesmond Child . The album was promoted only onAmerican Bandstand andSolid Gold , because of a lack of promotion it was ignored by critics and failed to chart. Later, in1999 the album was reissued byVarèse Sarabande and it was reestimated by fans. The album contains various musical styles, the rock style of "Black Rose" such as "Walk With Me", "The Book of Love" and Rudy, a slight country sound, "I Paralyze" and some ballads such as "When the Love is Gone" and "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?"; "Back On the Street Again" and "Games" have both a great "old 80's" style.
"Rudy" and "I Paralyze" were released as singles to promote the album, but they were both unsuccessful. Rudy was covered by French singer
Dalida . In1981 Cher registered a song withMeat Loaf called "Dead Ringer For Love"; the song was a hit inUK , but it didn't appear in the final cut of the album.Track listing
