- Katedralskolan i Åbo
Katedralskolan i Åbo (The Cathedral School of Åbo) is a Swedish-language senior high school located in the city of
Turku (known in Swedish as "Åbo") inFinland .In the 1970's "Svenska klassiska lyceum" and "Åbo svenska flicklyceum", The Swedish Girls' Secondary School of Turku, were united and the old school name Katedralskolan i Åbo, the Cathedral School of Turku, was revived. In 1977 the name was transferred to signify the new upper secondary school at Vanha Suurtori 1, The Old Grand Place. The current schoolhouse was built after the conflagration of Turku in 1827.
In theory, the "Katedralskolan" is the oldest institution of learning of Finland as it has an organizational continuity from the medieval Cathedral school, founded in
1276 . Part of the school formed the basis for theRoyal Academy of Turku , the predecessor of the present-dayUniversity of Helsinki , in1640 .External links
