- Nat Young (artist)
Nat Young is an East Anglian artist, producing various mixed media paintings.
Life and career
He moved to East Anglia in the early seventies and began drawing and sketching. It was at this tine that he came under the influence of the
Norwich School of Artists and took up watercolour painting, tackling scenes in East Anglia and rural landscapes. During the last twelve years, he has continued to experiment with different media and has gradually extended his subject matter.Nat Young is now a confident painter using
watercolour , gouache, oils, and mixed media. His current work is mainly landscapes, characterised by bold colour and painterly, dynamic gestures giving an impression both of the subject and his artistic response to it. As his confidence has grown in using his materials, he has shown more willingness to break the conventional methods of applying pigment to paper and board. This has resulted in some of his most successful work on the lines of abstractimpressionism , whilst still retaining the sense of place.Nat has had several one-man shows at The David Wood Gallery in
Dedham , The Digby Gallery inColchester , and Hayletts Gallery in Colchester. He has contributed to a three-man show at The Head Street Gallery inHalstead . He has participated in mixed exhibitions at The West Wales Arts Centre, John Russell Gallery inIpswich , Shakespeare House Gallery in Dedham, Buckenham Gallery inSouthwold , The Glansevern Gallery inPowis , The Life Gallery in Colchester and The Geedon Gallery inFingringhoe . Nat is an active member and vice chairman of Colchester Art Society. He is also the Arts Correspondent for theEssex County Standard Newspaper .
