Tumi is a manufacturer of suitcases and bags for travel. The company was founded in 1975 and is named for a Peruvian ceremonial knife used for sacrifices. The products are known for their black-on-black ballistic nylon. The company is based in South Plainfield, New Jersey. Tumi is known among consumers for its exclusivity, and quality stylish products. Today, Tumi's products range from luggage, business cases and handbags to wallets, writing instruments and watches. A Tumi bag is considered de rigueur among professionals who travel a lot such as investment bankers, lawyers and consultants and most people will use their Tumi bags for 5 - 7 years at least

Tumi holds over 25 patents for its design and component part innovations. Tumi products are covered by comprehensive warranties that are detailed on the company's website. Most Tumi products feature an individual product identification number, called Tracer, which can help reunite customers with their lost or stolen bags. The Tracer program is free; products must be registered to be covered by the program.
