Kristy Hanson (born June 16, 1981) is an up-and-coming American
singer-songwriter . Kristy Hanson (Kristin Leslie Hanson) was born inCleveland ,Ohio and livedin theShaker Heights area. Her family moved to southFlorida in 1986. Kristy attended theUniversity of Michigan inAnn Arbor from 1999-2004, earning degrees in English Languageand Literature and vocal performance and studying with formerMetropolitan Opera divaShirley Verrett . Kristy performed in school and All-State choirs as a child, and beganstudying voice at 12. She began performing her own songs and other folkmusic in bookstores and coffee houses as a high school student, after havingtaken up guitar. Initially, she was very much influenced byJoni Mitchell ,Joan Baez and current folk artists like theIndigo Girls . Throughout collegeshe performed at Ann Arbor venues, most notably The Blind Pig, and put onseveral concerts for University of Michigan students. It was during hercollege years that she released her first two albums, "Half the Moon" (2001)and "She's Been Waiting "(2003). She lived and performed inLos Angeles for a portion of 2004, andcurrently, she lives in Grand Rapids,Michigan . She performsthroughout the country, often with other female artists, and she worksactively to promote other independent artists as a performing member ofIndiegrrl and as the Media/PR Coordinator for Songsalive.Discography
