Ricky Salmon was born on the 10th January 1967, educated at the
University of Portsmouth and is currently a freelance newsreader forBBC Radio 2 .Since qualifying as a broadcast journalist in 1989, Ricky has worked as a travel reporter for
AA Roadwatch, as a newsreader, senior journalist and "flying eye" travel news reporter for Ocean FM,Power FM andSouth Coast Radio (nowGold ), as a presenter/producer forBBC Radio Solent andBBC Wiltshire Sound , as a journalist/newsreader for national commercial broadcastersVirgin Radio andTalkSPORT , and as a presenter for London News 97.3.During his time as Ocean/Power's flying eye, he earnt the nickname "Sicky Salmon" after an occasion in which airsickness in the Cessna aircraft caused him to be sick in mid-broadcast.
Ricky was an announcer/newsreader for the old
BBC Radio 5 and at midnight on Sunday 27 March 1994 had the dubious honour of being the last voice to be heard on the network, prior to the launch the new5 Live at 5am the next morning.Other broadcasting has included working as a continuity announcer for Granada Plus (now ITV3) and the World Radio Network, and the Sunday evening music show he currently presents on the Play Love channel of http://www.playradiouk.com/
