Lucy Taxis Shoe Meritt (born 1906, died Austin,
Texas ,April 13 ,2003 ) was aclassical archaeologist and a scholar of Greek architectural ornamentation and mouldings.Lucy Shoe Meritt studied at
Bryn Mawr College , A.B. 1927, M.A. 1928, Ph.D. 1935. She studied at theAmerican School of Classical Studies in Athens from 1929 to 1934. From 1937 to 1950 Meritt taught atMount Holyoke College . She was twice a fellow of theAmerican Academy in Rome (1937 and 1950). She worked at the Roman site ofCosa and atSerra Orlando (Morgantina ) inSicily . She served as editor of publications for theAmerican School of Classical Studies in Athens from 1950 until 1972. In 1972 she moved to Austin, Texas, and was a Visiting Scholar at theUniversity of Texas at Austin from 1973 until her death.Publications
