Mihajlo Krešimir II

Mihajlo Krešimir II

Mihajlo Krešimir II was a King of Croatia from 949 until his death in 969. He was a member of the House of Trpimir. Mihajlo Krešimir was the younger son of Krešimir I and younger brother of Miroslav, who succeeded Krešimir as King of Croatia in 945.

In a civil war between Mihajlo and Croatia's King Miroslav, Miroslav was killed in 949, and Mihajlo Krešimir succeeded him as King of Croatia. Mihajlo ruled until his death, and his son Stjepan Držislav succeeded him.

The Croatian kingdom reached its former glory during Mihajlo's reign. By 968 he gained control over Bosnia and pacified the local tribes, establishing full control.

Mihajlo and his wife Jelena of Zadar had good relations with the Dalmatian cities. Jelena built for royal family mausoleum in Solin. She outlived him for 7 years. At the end of the 19th century, the inscription of her grave was found and translated, bearing her title: "Queen".
