Allison Maree Ritchie is an
Australian Labor Party politician in theTasmanian Legislative Council (upper house). She is a member of the Hobart based seat of Pembroke. She was elected on 5 May 2001 at age 26; she was the youngest person ever to be elected to theTasmanian Legislative Council . She married soon after; being the only member of Tasmanian parliament to marry (for the first time) while in office.Ritchie was born in
Hobart on the 28 July 1974. She grew up in the Hobart eastern suburbs attending Mornington Primary School, Warrane High School, Clarence High School, Rosny College and theUniversity of Tasmania . Joining theAustralian Labor Party at age 14. As an active member of the Labor party she worked in the state branch as an administrative officer from 1996 until her election.Allison's political interests include women's rights, social justice and offering services for the disabled. Allison would be described as in the 'left' faction of the Labor Party. She is a strong supporter of
Emily's List ; which provides financial assistance and promotes the accession of women to parliaments acrossAustralia .ee also
