Wulfhere (died 900) was Archbishop of York between 854 and 900.

Life

Wulfhere was consecrated in 854.Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 224]

In 867 the Danes attacked York, and captured it. Wulfhere made peace with the invaders and stayed in York.Abels "Alfred the Great" p. 116-117]

In 872, the Northumbrians rebelled against the Danes and their collaborators, and Wulfhere fled York.Abels "Alfred the Great" p. 142] Eventually he found refuge with King Burgred of Mercia.Stenton "Anglo Saxon England" 3rd ed. p. 251] Abels "Alfred the Great" p. 120]

He was recalled in 873, and continued in York until his death in 892 or 900. After his death, the see remained vacant for eight years.Brooke "York Minster" "Churches and Churchmen" p. 37]
