Glenelg High School is located in the Western portion of Howard County, Maryland. The second school in Howard County, after Howard High School, Glenelg opened its doors in 1958. [ [http://www.glenelghigh.com Glenelg High School ] ] The original county championship trophy was called the "Elgard," a combination of the names of both county schools.

The building itself has gone through many changes over the years to cope with the growing population of the Western part of Howard County, including the addition of seven portable classrooms, which have since become permanent, a new drama/music wing, and most recently construction on a new science wing and addition to the cafeteria have been finished. The school is located just west of Maryland Route 32, south of Interstate 70, and east of Maryland Route 97.

The school's yearbook is entitled "Palindrome".

chool Spirit

Notable facts about Glenelg include the distinctive use of cowbells at sporting events, stemming from the olden days when bells on the cows from the farm adjacent to the athletic fields could be heard during games. Also distinctive trait is the "Senior Run" or "Senior Stampede". This is when all of the graduating seniors run through the school and bang on doors and lockers, and generally create a fun-spirited ruckus.The administration, though, has frowned upon the "Senior Run" in recent years, much to the protests of the student body.
