"Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds, Vol. 1" is the debut album by Jill Scott. It was released on July 18th, 2000 to generally positive reviews. The album was nominated for Best R&B Album in the 2001 Grammy Awards. Both "Gettin' In The Way" and "A Long Walk" were nominated for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance; the first in 2001, and the later in 2002. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jill_Scott] .

While not a single, the album track "He Loves Me," dedicated to Scott's then-husband Lyzel became a particularly popular song in Scott's live and televised performances. Jill's song also received a club makeover as dances remixes of the song gained popularity and were later included on her subsequent 2001 "" album.

Gospel singers Karen Clark Sheard and her daughter Kierra Sheard also covered the song with new gospel lyrics and ad-libs on Clark Sheard's 2003 album "The Heavens Are Telling". Beyoncé included the song as part of a medley during her "The Beyoncé Experience" world tour.

As a bonus track, "Who Is Jill Scott?" contains a remix of "Love Rain" featuring rapper Mos Def.
