William Sinnott (musician)

William Sinnott (also known as Will Sin) (23 December 1960 - 23 May 1991) was a Scottish musician and songwriter. Bass player/keyboardist in alternative dance act The Shamen, he wrote several agit-pop style songs for the albums "In Gorbachev We Trust" and "Phorward", before developing a more tribal influenced sound for the instrumental pieces "Lightspan" and "Evil is Even" on the album "En-Tact" (1990). Along with Colin Angus, he transformed the band's sound from guitar pop to psychedelic house and techno.

Sinnott was only 30 when he drowned off the coast of La Gomera, in the Canary Islands, while the band were shooting the video to the re-release of their 1990 single "Pro-Gen". When it was released, (as "") it went to number 4 in the UK charts. Although the band's success mushroomed for a time after his death, it was arguably at the expense of the integrity and rawness that Sinnott brought to their sound.
