Robert Bringhurst (born
October 16 ,1946 ) is apoet ,typographer andauthor .Born in
Los Angeles ,California , he was raised inUtah ,Montana ,Wyoming ,Alberta , andBritish Columbia . Bringhurst studiedarchitecture ,linguistics , andphysics at theMassachusetts Institute of Technology , andcomparative literature andphilosophy at theUniversity of Utah . He holds a BA from Indiana University and an MFA increative writing from theUniversity of British Columbia .Bringhurst has taught
literature ,art history andhistory of typography at several universities and heldfellow ships from theCanada Council for the Arts , theSocial Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada , and theGuggenheim Foundation .Among most
graphic designer s, the name "Bringhurst" is synonymous with his "The Elements of Typographic Style " – a reference book oftypefaces ,glyphs and the visual and geometric arrangement of type.He lives on
