* Siddhartha Gautama was reported to have been born after appearing to his mother in a dream, taking the form of a white elephant. According to legend, his mother had a completely painless delivery and bore him out of her side. It is also reported that as soon as the baby Siddhartha was delivered, he took seven steps, and under each step bloomed a lotus flower.

Lao Tzu

* According to some traditions, Lao Tzu was born an old man. This may be because the characters for Lao Tzu (老子) which are usually read "old master" can also be read "old child".
