- Prophet (band)
Prophet were a band from
New Jersey featuring Dean Fasano (lead and backing vocalist), Ken Dubman (guitarist), Scott Metaxas (guitarist and bassist), Joe Zujkowski (keyboard), andTed Poley (drummer and lead vocalist). This was at least the line up of the first album in 1985. Prior to this William Runcowas also part of the band. Ted Poley went on to sing for
Danger Danger . Dean Fasano was also in the band Message. The second album "Cycle of the Moon" was released two years later with singer
Russel Arcara .Scott and Joe were originally in a band called Icarian and then formed Tom Fullers Rock City with local guitarist, Tom Fuller and vocalist Marc Hoffman, (who played the drums in Tom Fullers Rock City). Hoffman, Metaxas, Zujkowski and Dubman were the founding members and Hoffman was responsible for developing Prophets rich harmonies with Metaxas in the early days.
Hoffman helped perfect the Prophet sound & vocals, performing very intricate progressive songs and brilliant live covers of Bohemian Rhapsody, Toto's "Goodbye Girl", Starship's "Jane", vocally matching Boston, Journey, Styx, (Come Sail Away-) Marc sang them all perfectly. Prophet was the best cover band in the tri-state area, before they started writing original songs.
Hoffman finally left the band, as a result of frustration and a desire to write and record original music., Russel Arcara replaced Hoffman and 3 other singers replaced Arcara in the band.
Hoffman teamed up with local guitar hero, Dean Summers (Summers and Hoffman had played together in high school bands) and began co-writing, recording, and performing in a new original, acclaimed band called RACE, along with keyboardist Adam Emanuel (Mataxus cousin) Bob Butterfield (also ex Prophet drummer, who was later replaced by Tony Cerbo.
