The school building was originally the
junior high school for the adjacent Hastings School but, with the introduction of French immersion, it was chosen as one of the first schools to participate. During the school's first few years as a French immersion school it was known simply as Hastings Immersion. It was later felt that a name more connected with theFranco-Manitoban culture would be appropriate and Marie-Anne Gaboury was chosen for her many accomplishments to early life in Manitoba.Campus
The school is a single two-story building in the suburb of St. Vital. The school houses a daycare in its basement. It has a small music room and a small gymnasium with a stage for school performances. The school also has a small cantine where students may purchase food.
The school shares its sports field and play structure with Hastings School. The play structure was provided by a cooperative fundraising effort of the two parent's associations.
