Operations
I-GO operates much the same way the for-profit company (and I-GO competitor)
Zipcar does. Vehicles are stationed in various locations throughout the city of Chicago. Members of I-GO can reserve a vehicle online or by calling the company, pick the car up from the nearest location, use the vehicle, and then return it to the same location. They're charged an hourly rate for vehicle use.I-GO has partnered with the City of Chicago, the
Chicago Transit Authority along with many community and civic organizations. The organization was founded in2002 by theCenter for Neighborhood Technology . As ofJune 2007 , I-GO had nearly 6000 members and 160 cars available for use. Cars are located in 32 Chicago neighborhoods plus Evanston and Oak Park. Members pay a one-time fee to join, and an annual renewal fee, and are then billed by the hour for their use of I-GO cars. The I-GO fleet includes:Scion xB ,Honda Civic ,Honda Civic Hybrid ,Honda Element , andPrius . All I-GO cars are low-emission vehicles. I-GO operates their cars through a vendor agreement withFlexcar , which allows I-GO to use Flexcar's technology, in addition to allowing members of each other's service to use each other's vehicles.References
