The village is about 12 miles north of Tiverton and is on the edge of theExmoor National Park.It consists of a local garage, some housing areas, a village hall and a church. It was also home to the
Dulverton railway station on theTaunton toBarnstaple line, but was closed in the 1960s.West Somerset Polo Club play in fields below the village alongside theRiver Barle .Recently, the Carnarvon Arms Hotel buildings near the railway station have been re-developed into flats.
