USS "Dearborn" (PF-33), a "Tacoma"-class
frigate , is so far the only ship of theUnited States Navy to be named forDearborn, Michigan ."Dearborn" (PF-33) was laid down on
15 August 1943 byWalter Butler Shipbuilding Company ofSuperior, Wisconsin , under aMaritime Commission contract. She was named "Dearborn" and launched on27 September 1943 , sponsored by Mrs. R. C. Dahlinger of Dearborn, Michigan; and commissioned on10 September 1944 , withLieutenant Commander F. F. Nichols,USCG , in command.Sailing from
Boston, Massachusetts , on3 November 1944, "Dearborn" arrived at NS Argentia, Newfoundland, 4 days later for duty on weather patrol. She had similar duty offBermuda , as well asplane guard andsearch and rescue duty until30 April 1946 when she arrived back at Boston. On7 May , she departed forCharleston, South Carolina , arriving there 2 days later. "Dearborn" was decommissioned there on5 June 1946 , and sold on8 July 1947 .References
