Luis Bienvenido Pujols Toribio (born
November 18 ,1955 , inSantiago, Dominican Republic ) was acatcher and manager inMajor League Baseball . He played nine seasons with theHouston Astros ,Kansas City Royals , and Texas Rangers. He has no relation to theSt. Louis Cardinals player,Albert Pujols .After his playing career, he was an assistant coach with many teams, mainly working under major league manager
Felipe Alou . He later was a coach with theDetroit Tigers and became the team'sinterim manager for most of the 2002 season afterPhil Garner was fired. Tigers GMDave Dombrowski hired Felipe Alou to be Pujols' bench coach. Many believed that Alou was the "de facto" manager, but was named bench coach so that the Tigers, a team very low on talent, would not have a negative impact on Alou's won-loss record as a manager.Fact|date=June 2008 An infamous incident in Pujols's year managing was when the Tigers somehow batted out of order. Pujols was fired at the end of the 2002 season and followed Alou to San Francisco, where he served asfirst base coach until the end of the 2006 season. On 10 December 2007, Luis Pujols was named Manager of the Corpus Christi Hooks, Houston Astros AA farm team [ [http://www.texas-league.com/news/?id=8707 Texas League ] ] .
