- Anatoly Gribkov
Anatoly Ivanovich Gribkov ( _ru. Анато́лий Ива́нович Грибко́в) (
March 23 ,1919 –February 12 ,2008 ) was at Soviet Army High Command during theCold War era. Gribkov was born in the village of Dukhovoye (now inLiskinsky District ofVoronezh Oblast ),Russian SFSR onMarch 23 ,1919 , to father Ivan Vasilyevich Gribkov and mother Serafima Kuzminichna Gribkova. He had six brothers and three sisters. When he was older, he attended theJ. V. Stalin Armored Troops School , from which he graduated early, and later graduated from theSoviet General Staff Academy with anhonours degree and agold medal . General Anatoly Gribkov played minor but important roles during the events of theCuban Missile Crisis andCheckpoint Charlie .He later commanded the
Leningrad Military District and then was, until his retirement in 1989, Chief of Staff of theWarsaw Treaty . Gribkov died onFebruary 12 ,2008 .References
