The album was largely recorded with musicians who played with the band Cracker, for whom Mark Linkous worked with at the time as a guitar tech / roadie and a sometimes collaborator. In fact, most of the album was produced and recorded by David Lowery (of Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven) under the pseudonym "David Charles."
