Steven Sean Ferguson (born 8 May 1980) is a canoer, surf lifesaver and former swimmer from New Zealand.
Ferguson was born in
Auckland , New Zealand, the son of four-times Olympic gold medal winning canoeist Ian Ferguson. As a four year old, he watched his father winning gold medals inLos Angeles, California , in 1984.Steven Ferguson competed in the 100 and 200m
breaststroke at the2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney but did not pass the qualifying heats. He also competed in swimming at the1998 Commonwealth Games .He followed in the footsteps of his
canoeing father, representing New Zealand in canoeing at the2004 Summer Olympics inAthens . He finished in 8th position in the K2 1000m. He competed again in the K2 1000m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with Mike Walker, finishing in 6th place. He also competed in the K1 500m final, finishing 8th.He is also involved in surf lifesaving and belongs to the New Zealand National Team which competed at World Lifesaving Championships 2004 in Viareggio, Italy, and 2006 in Melbourne, Australia. At these events he won medals in the pool swimming and surf ski paddle events.
