Tony ("Arnold") Ineson (born
April 23 ,1950 inChristchurch ) is a formerfield hockey player fromNew Zealand , who was a member of the national team that won the golden medal at the1976 Summer Olympics inMontreal .Known to his teammates as Arnold, Ineson was the captain of the 1976 gold medal winning hockey team. His brother Chris represented The Kiwi's for several years, including at the
1972 Summer Olympics . Tony Ineson was selected for two Olympics, but because of the 1980 boycott the team did not play inMoscow .He is remembered as a strong leader, capable of offering blunt appraisal of his team-mates' play if he felt it warranted. Ineson scored crucial penalty corner goals in the 1976 semi-final against
Holland and the final against archrivalsAustralia . Ineson, who played at right back, competed for Cyril Walter’s University club in Christchurch, though in some seasons he turned out for Redcliffs.He has had a variety of jobs, including running the Christchurch branch of
Adidas , having a spell working for a furniture company and, more recently, selling solid fuels for fires.
