Lilo Training Detachment of Frontier Troops

The Lilo Training Detachment of Frontier Troops is famous due to an incident when Russian troops forgotFact|date=July 2007 to clean up radiation sources or even inform the new Georgian government that they had ever used radiation there. The radiation sources were used in training exercises in 1992 to help teach the Russian soldiers to detect and avoid radiation. The radiation sources were not detected until February of 1997, when 11 Georgian soldiers became sick.

This prompted an investigation, whereupon Georgia discovered over 352 contaminated military sites not previously disclosed by the departing Soviet government. This number includes abandoned power equipment and medical waste as well as training sources.
