A Rhino tank (or "Rhinoceros") [ [http://www.ospreypublishing.com/content2.php/cid=133 Normandy legends: the Culin hedgerow cutter] ] [ [http://www-cgsc.army.mil/carl/resources/csi/doubler/doubler.asp#30 Busting the Bocage - The Solution] ] [ [http://www.skylighters.org/photos/pow08202001.html Hell in the Hedgerows ...] ] was the nickname for Allied tanks fitted with hedgerow-breaching "tusks" in Normandy during the liberation of France in World War II. From the steel obstacles placed by the Germans on the beach during the landing, the Americans made many-pronged, sharp, tusk-like objects to attach to the front of their M4 Sherman tanks. This method of cutting through hedgerows was extremely effective in the bocage terrain of the area, where hedges were a serious obstacle for tanks.

In popular culture

A Rhino Tank is a type of war tank from various video games, including "Grand Theft Auto", "Red Alert 2" and "" and also in the "Warhammer 40K Dawn of War". The Rhino Tank has also recently appeared in the popular Myspace application "Mobsters".

There also is a Rhinoceros with the name "Tank" in "Animal Crossing" and "".
