Lampricide

Lampricide

Lampricide is a chemical which is designed to target the larvae of Lampreys in river systems before their recruitment as parasitic adults. TFM ( 3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophenol) is one such chemical [http://www.science.mcmaster.ca/Biology/Harbour/SPECIES/SEALAMP/CONTROL.HTM] While effective in that it typically doesn't harm other fish due to the evolutionary relationship between true fish and lampreysFact|date=November 2007, lampricides can be problematic for amphibians such as mudpuppies (genus Necturus) which often share the same habitats.
