Joan Orenstein

Joan Orenstein

Joan Orenstein (b. 1930 ) is a Canadian actress, primarily on stage, although she has performed in other media. One of her best-known roles was in "The Hanging Garden" as the dotty old grandmother, Grace.

She has acted across Canada but has mostly acted for Halifax's Neptune Theatre. She has also performed lead roles on most of the major Canadian stages, including the Centaur Theatre, the National Arts Centre, the Belfry Theatre, the Tarragon Theatre, Theatre Calgary, the Shaw Festival, the Canadian Stage and the Manitoba Theatre Centre.

Joan Orenstein has also performed on television, in film, on radio and in the recording industry.

Relatives

*Henry Orenstein is her husband, an artist and CBC production designer.

*Sarah Orenstein, a Dora Award winner, is the youngest of Joan's five daughters. She played a feminist filmmaker in Brad Fraser's 2003 play, "Cold Meat Party".

*Edie Orenstein (hat designer - [http://www.ediehats.com Edie Hats] ) is the second oldest of her daughters.

*The late Oscar Orenstein, artist and politician, was her brother-in-law and Ian Orenstein, cartoonist, writer and socialist, is a nephew.
