Karel Klaver

Karel Klaver (born September 29, 1978 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland) is a field hockey player from the Netherlands, who won the silver medal with the national squad at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

The striker made his debut in June 22, 2000 in a friendly match against Spain: 1-1. He plays for HC Bloemendaal in the Dutch League ("Hoofdklasse"), after leaving Hurley. Klaver was the victim of a severe incident on the hockey pitch in April 2002, when he was smacked by a ball on his head during a practice match. Doctors feared for his life, but after several weeks in hospital he fully recovered.

At the 2004 Champions Trophy in Lahore, Klaver became the tournament's topscorer with seven goals in six matches.
