industrialist ,environmentalist andphilanthropist . Heir to a large British beer industry, he was the founder of the Whitley Awards in1994 - currently the biggest environmental awards inEurope . The Whitley Awards were initially set up by Edward Whitley as a family charity based in theUnited Kingdom - the "Whitley Animal Protection Trust". It is currently given from the "Whitley Fund for Nature" (WFN). It is supported by many organizations, and benefactors, including theRufford Maurice Laing Foundation and Sting.
