John Morgan (golfer)

John Morgan (3 September 1943 – 23 June 2006) was an English professional golfer who competed on the European Tour in the 1970s and 80s, winning one tournament, namely the 1986 Jersey Open.

Morgan was born in Oxford. During the 1970s and 1980s he also competed in Africa on the Safari Tour, winning a total of five times, including the Nigerian Open and Ivory Coast Open. He was one of only a few professional golfers to combine a club professional role during this time, culminating in his last position at Royal Liverpool, the venue for The Open Championship in 2006.

Morgan was one member of a team of golfers, the Golfing Lions, who paved the way to bringing golf to Dubai, when they journeyed out there to play Pro-Ams and teach the Ex-Pat community in the early 1980s. Back then there were only sand golf courses.

After turning 50, Morgan played on the European Seniors Tour and the Champions Tour. He won the John Jacobs Trophy (European Seniors Order of Merit) in 1994, and was runner up in 1995 and 1996. He has won eight European Seniors Tour tournaments including the PGA Seniors Championship twice.

Morgan died of a brain tumour at the age of 62. He left a wife and four children.
