The total area of the
civil parish is 5,027 acres (2,032 hectares).The population of the
civil parish was given at 892 living in 341 households in the 2001 census.The
civil parish includes the village of Barton Stacey, and the hamlets of Cocum, Bransbury, Newton Stacey, and Drayton.The Village
The village has one primary school with around 96 students. It also has activity clubs that include a Judo Club, a Football Club, two Drama Clubs and a Tuesday Club.
Barton Stacey lies in two parts. The first to be settled, including Kings Elms, Gravel Lane and The Street, is situated around the church. Nearby to the north-east is the newer part of Barton Stacey, which lies along
Roberts Road , East Road and West Road. This area was built by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) as housing for troops that had been posted to the camp just outside the village. In the early 1990s the MOD sold many of the houses to the public, keeping some lining West Road for military personnel. Since then only a few houses have been built in the area, all privately constructed. In 2006/2007 four flats were constructed on the edge of Roman Way, in Roberts Road. A plan exists to build some low-cost housing on land currently owned by the MOD.The Football Club
Barton Stacey Football Club plays on the recreational ground on Saturdays for certain age groups and Sundays for others. There are four teams that play in different age groups for the village; Under 9's, Under 11's, Under 13's and Seniors.
The Church
The All Saints Church in the village is situated to the west of the village opposite the start of Bullington Lane. The church is renowned to be one of the oldest in England, dating in part from the 11th century; it is mentioned in the
Domesday Book .Recreation Ground
The recreation ground is situated in the west of the village and contains two football pitches, a pavilion and a play park. There is a small car park in front of the village shop which is used as parking.
The Land of The Village
Most of the land surrounding the village is owned by the MOD, and some of it is rented by local farmers. At either end of
Roberts Road there are two pieces of woodland, both MOD property, but many villagers use the footpaths that have been made over the years to walk through these magnificent woodland areas.Businesses in the Village
There are four main businesses in the village. They are The Village Shop, Peter Goldings LTD, The Swan Inn and Lionel Hitchen Essential Oils Ltd. The village shop provides groceries and much more, and has a post office. Peter Goldings LTD is a supplier to the garden and aquatics trade. The Swan Inn is a village pub with a B&B, holds special events throughout the year and serves food. Lionel Hitchen Essential Oils Ltd is a supplier to the food and food flavors industry.
The Judo Club
The Judo club is run by Keith Cox who first started the club in June 1997. The club meets every Friday evening in the village hall for practice. Since the club started it has entered into many competitions and done really well, winning on various occasions.
