Marco Polo Expedition (1960)
- Marco Polo Expedition (1960)
The Marco Polo Expedition was a motorcycle journey undertaken in 1960 by Tim Severin, Stanley Johnson and Michael de Larrabeiti. Severin and Johnson were, at the time, undergraduates at Oxford University; de Larrabeiti was working in the film business and was recruited through a newspaper advertisement.
The trio travelled overland from Oxford to Venice, and then on to India and Afghanistan, following the route taken by Marco Polo. They were unable to complete the journey, however; visa problems prevented their entering into China.
