Theodore "Teddy" Wilson (December 10,1943 - July 21,1991) was an American character actor best known for his recurring role as Sweet Daddy Williams on the CBS sitcom "Good Times".

Biography

Born in New York, New York, Wilson made his acting debut in the blaxploitation film, "Cotton Comes to Harlem". Wilson would go on to appear in several blaxploitation films of the era. In addition to films, Wilson also landed roles in several popular television shows. Wilson portrayed Earl the postman in the series "That's My Mama"imdb name|id=0934209] Wilson also played the role of Al Dunbar in a popular two-part episode of the 1970s sitcom "What's Happening!!". In the conclusion of the two-parter, Wilson's character gets arrested for bootlegging a Doobie Brothers concert. In 1977, Wilson starred in the short lived sitcom "The Sanford Arms", a spin-off of "Sanford and Son". Wilson also appeared in several episodes of "What's Happening Now", "Dallas", and "Quantum Leap", and was featured in films such as "The Hunter" starring Steve McQueen and "Life Stinks" directed by and starring Mel Brooks.

Personal life

In 1980, Wilson married actress Joan Pringle. They divorced prior to Mr Wilson's death but remained in close contact. Theodore Wilson was a graduate of Florida A&M University and was member of the famed Drama department. He and Meshach Taylor (of Designing Women) attended F.A.M.U. at the same time and were close until Mr. Wilson's death..

Death

In 1991, Wilson died of heart related complications at the age of 47 in Los Angeles, California. He had open heart surgery only a few years prior and never was really healthy again. He did not die of A.I.D.S. as was popularly rumored.
